If you have a stock H/balancer.
Check with John. Member Bluvette1.
He has supplied many members with a resonably priced kit.
Good luck.

Is there some underlying reason it throws the bolt out? Just curious to know? I thought the bolt was a one time use thing.

When the balancer walks around the crank snout it will loosen the bolt.
This happens many more times then you can imagine that's why anyone that removes their balancer for any reason should pin it!

So it's a defect in the LS1 design? It can't handle the power.

I had to press on my pulley and then Torqued the one time use bolt. I guess I need to watch out and plan to fix what GM failed to do?

Common when:

1.) The balancer wasn't installed with an installation tool, just shoved on w/ a bolt;

2.) The bolt wasn't torqued properly;

3.) The old balancer was reused and beyond useful life.

Not so common otherwise.

LS Vettes, on the other hand, have big problems w/ the balancer ring coming off the hub when the rubber insert gets old, even if the balancer has never been removed.

Does your balancer wobble? If so time for a new one as well. Common issue.

SLP is a re-badged Powerbond. The hub should have a keyway milled in it. This is the perfect arrangement to use the ATI pin kit if you want to pin the crank. You should also swap the front seal in the timing cover while you have it off, otherwise you will be back in there later. This can be done without removing the timing cover.

As stated, correct installation should result in no issues. If you used a torque to install then it is not installed correctly. Final bolt load is applied through a 140 degree rotation.

Also, don't use LS1howto for removal/installation. Recipe for disaster.
