Default 1997 tranny service

No doubt I am a corvette novice. I have a 1997 with 23k miles. Does the automatic transmission need to be serviced? Manual says no but I am wondering about age of fluid. Help folks.

I have a question. How comfortable do you feel with trans fluid that is 15 years old? If you could get 12k miles on your engine oil(going by the life monitor), would you have only changed it twice in 15 years?

good point! I have only owned the car for a year, so I do not know the history. That is the way I felt but did not know if there was anything I need to be concerned about.

pops,

I'd have it changed. Had my 98's (38K miles) changed at 8 years. You might also ask your local Chevy dealer to run a service history on your vin number and see if any previous service history records come up.

Unless I purchase a car from an owner that I know personally, I always change out all the fluids. Then you know exactly where you're at moving forward.

I have taken the car in to get the tranny serviced. The brake and steering fluids are the only ones I have not changed after this is done. Should I do those as well in the next month or so? I appreciate all the gentle suggestions. I just put michelin run flats on for the previous ones were not run flats. Some do and some don't, I know, but I feel better. Thanks all!!!!

YES at least get a suction device and remove all the brake fluid and steering fluid you can and replace it with the approved GM recc fluids ONLY--same for the trans---many opinions on using synthetic trans fluid--My opinionis to only use the regluar dex/merc fluid in the trans
