Aloha all, Just returned from a 2month visit home this morning and uncovered my 1998 C5 with 80,000 miles and the trouble began! I fired it up, turned on the Air and my seat started placing itself in another position, when I push memory 1 (my setting) it turned off the air! I turned the car off and the next time it was as normal but I noticed displays popping up, SERV COLUMN LOCK, THEN SERV,TIRE MON,SYS. tHEN CHANGE OIL SOON (NEW THAT WAS COMING UP BEFORE i LEFT! i DISREGUARD AND STARTED TO DRIVE OFF! iT DIED AFTER JUST A FEW FEET! restarted and backed it up and it died again. Each time I drove fwd it died and reverse it died. Unlike so many C5 owners my 98 have never given me much trouble at all. Had to change a couple of windows, brake rotors and pads etc but the only electrical problem I ever had was the Air display was AWOL, I would sure appreciate any info on what my problems may be and what I can do about it. Thanks and Mahalo.
ADD, the car starts and runs great as usual and I have nothing in the steering column that seems a problem.Sorry left out that when you first start it up it tells you to remove the key for 10 seconds. Mahalo

Reason: omission of info
I'll bet your battery is severely discharged. Weird electrical things happen when the C5 battery is neglected. A nice slow charge may bring it back, but a discharged battery shortens its life.

Have it load checked at the very least...
Go have it tested and chances are it will be low. If thats the case get a new one instead of trying to revive the old one. Next time you store it put a tender on it and it shouldn't happen again. Hope thats all it is, good luck bro!
Sorry guys the battery is not the problem, changed it out this afternoon and its still doing the same thing. Any other suggestions appreciated, I hate like hell having to have it flat-bedded to the dealership for repairs. Aloha any other answers let me know! Aloha!
Sorry for your problems... I would suggest going to the
Electrical" sticky at the top of this forum and going thru all of the grounding points checklist for starters.. A buddy of mine had similar problems a coupe years back and we found 2 corroded ground connectors.
Pull your codes and write each and all down. Be sure to include all the "H" or "C"'s that are with each code. Then delete all of them. Restart and see what codes come back
Unless you have lots of $, don't go to the dealer until you have tried to fix this yourself with the help of Forum members. Most likely you can do it, may take some time but will save your large money. People here will assist.
Check for rodent droppings under the hood and inside the car. Sounds like you might have had some rodent chewing damage somewhere with it sitting quietly that long.
Harness K burned out, had to flat bed the car to local gm dealer as they told me that they may or may not cover the repair of the repair. I hope I can get them to reset the computer to not turn the fuel off at 2mph Maybe 200mph as suggested on a thread I read here.
