So I was in a parking ramp last week and I got the problem with the steering wheel locking after I started it. Also the service message and pull key. Was able to drive forward a little and car kept running. I ended up moving the wheel back and forth a few times and it disengaged the steering wheel lock and was able to drive home. Seems ok now but dont ever want to call a tow truck so I am going to install a bypass. I am seeing 3 different products on Amazon and am not sure what one would be the best.
No info on what year car you have in the post or your profile.
As long as the car is NOT a 97 or 98, do the "brown wire mod" described as OPTIONAL on page 2 of the install instructions at the time you install the LMC5. Otherwise you will be back soon after to do it to get rid of the "Pull Key...." message.
Suggest that you either fill out your profile with info about the car (year, manual or auto, mods to it etc) or provide that info in the post when you come looking for additional help. Just because the C5's all look alike does NOT mean that there are NOT significant changes over the years of their production that impact the help you might need.
Why wouldn't the brown wire mod be done on a '97 or '98?
Because the "brown wire mod" does NOTHING on the 97 - 98 column lock system. Electronics of the Factory Column Lock System on these two years is quite different than on the 99 - 2000 and different yet again from that on the 2001 - 2004 column lock system.
So on a '97 or '98 model you would just install the LCM5 without using the brown wire?
