Default How common is this Leak??

Inner Main Shaft Seal.

I've fixed the "Leaky Butt" and fluid is still leaking. So I've narrowed it down to the inner main shaft seal in the trans. After doing some research I found there is a hole between the inner and outer seal on the bottom of the transmission (for what purpose I don't know). Just wondering if this has happened to others. I picked up both inner and outer seals from D&D Performance and plan on doing the work this week. Thanks

Are you leaking red/tranny fluid or brown/gold diff fluid?
Are you leaking at the rear of the tranny where the tranny tail section bolts up to the main tranny?

Looks to be dark fluid and drops gather where the diff and trans meet. I've cleaned the area and it comes back. Removed the diff and the area between then diff and trans is clean. I have new dextron fluid in both.\

It's all over everything...

Sounds as though it may be the large o ring at the end of the tail shaft housing where the diff slides over it. GM#12369456.

There are two main shaft seals in there too.
The inner seal GM#89059457 (trans seal)
The outer seal GM#12455045 (diff seal)

The diff's axle seals are GM#88996703
The diff side cover o ring GM#89047953

If you decide to pull the tail section off the tranny. When putting back together, it's best to use a black/grey rtv sealant between the two mating surfaces.

Good luck.

I wasn't aware of the oring. When i upgraded the output shaft the area between the diff and trans were dry. It was when reading about the 2 shaft seals and the "weep" hole between them that I suspected the inner seal. Thanks for the input!

Is the oring applicable to T-56 cars? From what I read it's says auto only.

Found this thread. Going to give this a try before pulling the tranny.
