Default Headlight door problem

When I turn off the headlights in my 2000, the headlights go off and the doors close normally. However, when the doors close completely, a loud noise can be heard. It sounds like a chattering relay and lasts for a few seconds. If I unplug the multiwire connector near the right headlight, the left light and door behave normally and the right one does nothing. I suspect the headlight door module. Has anyone had a similar experience and what was done to fix it.

It sounds like you have a bad healight motor gear in the one. You can buy a replacement gear kit from ecklers corvette parts and some other vendors. You can also replace the whole motor alot costlier. Not a hard fix.

I agree too...the normal first item of failure is the gear

As suggested above, a stripped gear was the problem. I replaced it with a kit that includes a brass gear and the glue. I first tried to rotate the gear 180 degrees figuring it would get the bad part out of the way but then it chattered while opening. I used the quick approach and did not remove the headlight assembly. I removed the black piece of the headlight (3 screws), then the top (3 screws) and then I could get at the nut that attaches the mechanism to the motor and the three bolts that hold the motor to the headlight frame.
