I decided to have my alternator powder coated black. I took apart the alternator following tips that I found in a search here on the forum. It came apart fairly easy and went back together the same. Now when installed I get low voltage. It now idles around 11 volts whereas prior to the project it hovered around 13 to 13.5 volts. Any ideas?

Yep.....it's probably not grounded anymore. Make sure the contact points are free of powder coating.
When you say contact point are you talking about the mounting ears of the alt.? I did remove the powder coating from both sides of the each ear for both mounts. Still no luck. We masked off the area where the voltage regulator mounts to the rear housing as well as masking off the areas where the bearings ride. As of right now I am out of ideas.
It is my understanding that the alt. grounds from the mounting points on the alt bracket. Is this truly the case? If not, where are the grounding points?
Have you tested the alternator outside of the car? Have it tested at your local auto parts or alternator repair shop. In short, test it in a different environment.
