Default differential fill plug leak

small drop of fluid from it so I am replacing the plug and washer. Seem to be having a hard time removing the washer and "limited slip fluid only" tag from the old plug. Also can't seem to get the washer off the new plug easily either. So my question is, can I just install the new plug without the tag? I don't want to bugger up anything trying to remove them.

Thanks

Hmmmmm... I just replaced my gear oil recently and I don't remember having a "tag" there at all... And why are you trying to take the washer off the new bolt?

Here's the procedure I used:

I was trying to remove the washer so I could put the tag between the bolt head and washer. I guess it's going on without the metal tag.

I'm surprised that you would get a leak from the fill plug.......unless....it was over serviced.

A vice, a small flathead screwdriver and a pair of pliers is the easiest way to remove a crush washer if you feel like you have to. Personally I'd just leave it off but that's JMHO...

Is it a SEMS ( captivated washer), or is it a loose washer? If it is not a SEMS (designed to stay in place as an assembly and not to be removed) then by all means go ahead and add the tag....which is shown in DeeGee's link sketch.

A little dab of high temp gasket sealant on the threads should stop the leak. I use it all the time just to be sure.
