HELP! I returned from an extended trip to find that my 98 coupe had the dreaded (SVC COLUMN LOCK-remove key for 10 sec.) Etc! Tried to move car as it starts and runs fine but it died in fwd and reverse after a few feet. With help from the forum (I changed the battery as it was bad but did not help) and from John (I pulled the knee panel and identified the K harness, unplugged it and plugged the factory lead back into the orginal factory plug so that I could move the car to the dealership.) Same'o Same'o, same display same cutoff of fuel when I moved the car a few feet. Flatbedded to dealer and they have had it for 10 days now and they still do not know how to repair. I even contacted GM customer service and they have also gotten involved but so far very little help, only they would keep me informed on repair status. I called the Service rep at the dealers for status and he does not even call me back. (Makes me wonder whats going on here?) I have lost all if I ever had any confidence in the dealer. We only have a couple of Chevy dealers here on the islands and I am at the point that I may move the car to another dealer to see if they can fix it. (Am I being shinned on by the dealer since my complaint to GM customer service?) This is the first major problem that I have had with this car in the 10 years I have owned it. Any suggestions on what I should do will be appreciated. Aloha Billy
I'd go to another dealer. I had the same issue a few weeks back. Did all the work and still no success. Called one dealer and he sounded puzzled. Called another and he said been there done that and fixed it very efficiently.
My problem was in all the switching and checking I popped a fuse. That was the first thing I checked and after I put in a new relay I forgot to check the fuses. Something got shorted when I was messing around and it cost me $150 at the dealer to determine it was a fuse. Me bad!!! Just to be certain I am not saying your problem is a fuse although it could be. What I am saying that in the trouble shooting circle back around to check the fuses. You may have done the fix with a cable change out.........and shorted a fuse. Good luck.
Thanks all, GM customer service told me to wait until monday as they were on the claim so I will give them until monday before I take the car over to the other chevy dealer. Before I take it to a new dealer I will try again the fixes you all gave me. Wonder what GM will say if they work? The world wonders! Aloha All
