Default New TAC module. Need to be "FLASHED"?

So someone told me that if I buy a new TAC module for my car (we have narrowed the problem down to this) then I have to take it to the dealer to have it "flashed" to my PCM... The car is a 97 auto. It will not start and the "reduced engine power" light is on.

Do I have to take it to the dealer? Anyone know the cost of this?

I don't think so,I think its plug & play.I would disconnect the battery before plugging it in.

A PCM would have to be flashed but I don't think the TAC needs it. You can put a PCM in yourself and do the security relearn but you would still need to go to the dealer to have the RPO codes entered.

If I install a new (used) PCM in my car, will a simple tune to remove the anti-theft let the car run and drive like normal?

I've done to 00-04 cars

NO FLASH, plug and go

PCM will need a relearn, not a reflash

you can put a autoPCM in a M6car to get it going, just need a relearn, also must stay within same PCM 'group'

97/8 cars a bit different, many upgrade to newer PCM
