Default Replaced Turn Signal Socket. Sharing Part # for others.

Well after Friday my passenger side turn signal decided to go out. After pulling it out from behind the air brake duct tube I discovered that the socket was BURNT! Pretty nasty and so was the driver side so, I decided to replace both sockets. Went to autozone and found the part for $5.99 ea. Not bad and now I have no more burnt sockets.
Reason for sharing is because I did a search earlier today and could not find the part #.

Here's my old socket:

Here is a photo of the part #.

I changed a turn signal bulb the other day and found the socket was burning up as well. This is on a 40,000 mile car. That old GM quality.

I have a good looking burnt one as well. I have managed to make it work for now. How hard is it to replace? Just cut the wires and reattach? Thanks

Yup, I cut the wires and then soldered the new one's together with the old. Very simple took me about 20 mins together. I went through the brake tube vent just press down on the inside of it and it will let you get your hand in there. Pull the socket through the front and cut, solder, BAM! new socket and apply bulb.

Great info. Most C5s have those burnt up connectors.

I just bought two and installed them. It needs to be told that these are not a direct replacement and the tabs do not line up (needs to be finagled in) and are a bit longer. This extra length is not a problem on the left side, but is on the right side. The rubber cover will bulge a little, but I don't think that is much of a problem. This was on a 2005 C6 coupe. Oops, just noticed this was in the C5 forum, sorry.

They don't burn up if you disable the DRL's

Do you snip the DRL portion of the wiring at the connector, or bend the lead on the bulb so it will not make contact?

Not to dig up an old thread but thanks so much for the info!

Just got an 03 a week ago and both turn signals are burnt. Took to dealership for oil change and had them look into it... $45 for looking... $400 to fix both front turn signals!!! I will definitely be doing this one myself! Thanks again!!

I replaced the sockets on my Z a few months ago. Got OEM sockets from Rock Auto for around $70 shipped. The cause is having incorrect bulbs, they burn hotter and since they are always on with the DRL, the sockets melt.

This thread is a big help! Thanks much, guys.

I got the cheap generic ones from AutoZone yesterday for $7 each. I'm not 100% sure if I got the right ones... These were a different part number than the one above. But the bulbs fit fine. The Autozone guy pointed out that I could just swap out the internals instead of wiring in the connectors.

Here's a picture of the internal piece once it's outside the connector. I just jammed the two small screwdrivers in to pop the tabs, then pulled it out with the needle nose pliers. I swapped the new internal piece into my old connector and it worked... For about two minutes. Then the bulbs flickered out. So I'm going to wire in the entire new connector tonight in hopes it'll work.

So apparently, Autozone and Oreilly's don't have the socket for my front turning signal on my 02 corvette. Any ideas as to where I can get it, or the part number? The part numbers above don't exist anymore.

did the 85881 (part in pic) eventually work when you wired a new one in? Having this issue and this is the local part available

Maybe this will help the next guy. I read through many topics here on CF before giving up because they were all out of date. But I did find the right part, for $11, from partsgeek.

It's sort of greenish beige, the wires are the correct brown/blue/black, and the best part was that even with the big rubber washer to seal it, it snapped in like a factory piece. No wiggling or sloppiness.

Part # was HP4170, manufacturer was supposedly Standard Motor Products.
