Short Throw Shifters
Are these Short Throws only because of the lenght of the Shifter Shaft ?

No, also the pivot point on some after market units plays a factor. In the case of the C6 shifter it is just the length difference.

I would say that the distance between each gear has to be reduced inorder for it to be a short throw shifter.

I test drove an '01 Z with a C6 shifter on it. It was really nice. I enjoyed it.
However, when I went with a shifter on the '03 Z I ended up buying, I went with an MGW. Much stiffer to shift but there is no doubt what gear you're in.
