Default HVAC Fan

When the fan (internal) is blowing inside the car around one or two bars no problem at all. But when I increase the fan to four bars a tremendous amount of noise happens. As soon as I return to one or two bars the noise goes away.

Is there an easy way to access the fan for removal/replacement without removing the dashboard etc.

The C5 blower motors are quite easy to get at under the passenger side dash, without really doing much else. These cars are well known for plugged AC condensate drain nipples, causing water to back up on the blower motor. You're prbably experiencing this with bad motor bearings causing the noise. You may be able to pull the motor and relube, but probably best just replacing it. You're really wanting to pull the front passenger tire, and clean out the rubber drain nipple with some wire.

Either a bad bearing as suggested already or something in there such as a mouse.

Remove the fan in the passengers foot well and inspect the AC Evaporator coil and fan for trash. The motor bearing could be bad or the fan cavity could be full of mouse nest like mine was!

Make sure that you REMOVE the fan fuse. The fan case is HOT and if grounded will run at full speed!!!!!!!!!!
