Default ABS TC Elimination

I have been reading all the threads about the EBCM problems on the 97-2000. Also searched the internet and made some calls. Seems that at least for now, there are no sure fire repairs or replacements. I don't want to beat a dead horse but...

How would one go about eliminating the system? Not necessarily phisically remove everything but get the brakes to operate normally and not have warning lights flashing.

When the EBCM is disabled due to fault, the brakes should work normally without ABS. Are you experiencing something else? My experience is with '01+, but I thought they worked the same.

If you want to keep ABS but disable TC and AH, I think they are too integrated in the EBCM to do that.

To address the warning lights, remove the gauge cluster and remove the offending light(s). I do not believe the Tech-II will let you disable the TC/AH functionality in the PCM/BCM, so they will always throw errors. Turning off the glaring yellow lights is probably your only solution short of fixing the EBCM.

I am hopefully buying a 99 next week. After reading all the threads about no repair for the 97-2000 EBCM, I was curious. Maybe I just need to quit reading until I actually get it. 01 and up are repairable. I had thought about pulling the dash bulbs also.

When you turn off the T/C manually, you are eliminating the traction control and active handling. It is my understanding that you will still have ABS function.[correct me if I'm wrong Bill]. I have installed a module in mine that has a memory and allows the system to remain off even after shutting the vehicle off and restarting. So you don't have to manually shut the systme off every time you get in the vehicle. www.kptechnologies.com. @$50. Easy install. You still have the warning light on the dash to deal with. I hope this helped. Good luck!!!!!

Your statements are true if the EBCM is working properly - ABS cannot be disabled by the button. My statement here is also true - when the EBCM disables itself after a fault is detected, it takes out TC, AH, and ABS. Once the EBCM is disabled by fault, the TC button (or an OBD-II module that simulates pressing it) has zero effect.

I think the OP would want the TC/AH/ABS functionality if the EBCM were working properly. But if the pre-01 EBCM fails (and he can't get it repaired/replaced), he just doesn't want the warning lights to appear. The DIC will still show "Service AntiLock System" and such at startup, but the yellow TC bulb would not be glowing.
