Default Removing an outside mirror

I've read many of the threads on replacing an outside mirror but most of them deal with a mirror that is already broken. I have an intact (but dead) electrochromic mirror is want to replace. I have a replacement mirror and adhesive discs.
Should I just break the mirror and remove it in pieces or can it be easily pried out of frame? Is there adhesive that could be loosened with heating?
Any tips would be much appreciated.

It can be pulled out but it may break. It is just held in with plastic clips and they may also break and then you have to fix the locating pins. I have epoxied mine 2 times now and it has just recently come loose so I am either going to replace or try another type of adhesive. Also it is a bit** to get back in and have the memory function work properly. Mine always repositions itself in the wrong position no matter how many times I reset the memory button.

I've seen posts where people have been able to just remove the glass portion, which would be ideal if you can do it. otherwise, you will be pulling your hair out trying to attach 4 flexible pivot points all at the same time while working blind. It does help to sand off some of the ball feature to allow the female part to slip over easier...that is the only way I have ever been able to do it. I have cracked one too trying to push the glass on...it is a horrible design, even my dealer hates to do it on customer cars.
