Default A California friendly cam?

Living in CA has it's ups and downs, obviously one of the downers being smog. No LT headers or huge cams. So my question is this, what do you guys think would be the biggest cam that I could pull off without having to worry about smog at all? Now obviously it isn't going to be that large, but do you think the largest CA friendly cam would still require valvetrain upgrades as well?

Thanks for any input.

My question would be..... How is the CARB guy going to give you an issue with a cam if you have no codes and it passes visual inspection?

serious question... its not a part he can see to give you **** about

California smog inspections currently have a sniffer. The overlap on a large cam allows unburned gasoline to exit the tail pipe. The sniffer picks it up and you can't register your car.

That can would be iffy. Make it a 114 or 115 LSA and it would pass.

To the OP - get a supercharger (A&A or Maggie)....they're smog legal and make a ton of power

I ran a 220-224 on a 114 lobe center advanced the exhaust +3 with 581 lift. Car runs strong and passes smog with no problems. I have had to have it sniffed twice. It passed so well I was kinda disappointed because I think I could have got away with a little more but as hard as it is to install a cam on a C5 I guess it's better safe than sorry

I have to smog in nov.
I read a report that said they would start in 2013. Then when I was up at RPM Motors in Santa Clarita, Charlie said he expected the plug in to start in 2012 (Jan?). Time will tell.

They have used the plugin method here in NY for a while and it is great. You can mod the call to the hilt. The car's computer says everything is fine and dandy and you get a new inspection sticker.
