I recently noticed a grinding sound when I turn the steering wheel while maneuvering around parking lots and the like at very slow speeds. It seems more noticeable after the car has been driven awhile and is fully heated up.
My dealer says such is normal and is only the computer making adjustments but I don't remember hearing the sounds until recently.
Do all C5s when driven at slow speeds make grinding sounds that appears to be in the steering column?
The moaning from the steering column is commonly caused by the nylon lower column bushing at the base of the column. It is located inside the big rubber firewall grommet, and can be accessed from under the hood by removing the steering intermidiate shaft. The bushing should be lubed with white lithium grease,or replaced :yesnod:
If you are good at getting into tight places, you can spray some white lube into the grommet, but not to much because the steering sensor is located just past the nylon bushing ;)
Is this a higher pitched moan when sawing the wheel back an forth? I'm trying to figure out what mine is also. The dealer greased some areas after calling GM and it might be better, but its still there. Usually after a driving a while.
