Default High oil pressure, I think

I have a 98 vette with 35k miles, today while driving I noticed the oil pressure was at 40 psi at 55 mph and 1500 rpm's.(normal)
When I turned off the cruise and coasted the pressure went up to 43 psi, this does'nt make sense. Also when I first took the car out the oil pressure was at 51 psi(never seen it that high) the temp outside was about 72 degrees.
Maybe the oil pressure sending unit is taking a cr#p???
Any help will be appreciated. THANKS

Cold idle for me is 55ish. That's pretty normal.

The 3psi bump when you let off the throttle seems inconsequential.

It could be the oil pressure sending unit. When it starts dying your oil pressure indicator starts going really high, then just maxes out. Do a search, if this becomes the problem there are many threads on fixing it. It's doable but kind of a PITA. This is also a very common problem on C5's.

Good luck

It usually pegs alll the way 80psi with ignition power only on when sensor dies.

ttt what? If your sensor was not working it would fail high. Your car sounds like it's fine.

I agree. If you have a problem, you'll see it creep higher till it suddenly maxes out. Probably means oil got past the seal into the sender's electronics.
