Default clutch problem

i have a 2002 z06 with 22150 miles. the drivetrain on it is stock. the problem i am having is I turn it on and the clutch stays stuck to the floor but it is engaged in gear and the car immediatly starts moving as soon as the engine starts. After pushing it in and pulling it out with my foot several times it starts to work as normal but feels soft then as I drive around a bit it feels totally normal. this started about a week and a half ago. i changed the clutch fluid using the ranger method and it seemed fine for about a week.

then yesterday it did it again but went back to normal after going in and out a couple times. i checked the fluid and it is still nice and clear. this morning i needed to take it to get a tire checked for a slow leak and the problem was back. but this time it took almost all the way to discount tire to start working again. everytime i had to stop at a light the engine would stall even though the clutch was pushed in then id have to start it again when the light turned green.

one observation i have had is that when it has been acting up, it has either been cold outside or several days since its last use. im not sure if that really has anything to do with anything.

i am thinking now that maybe i need a new master cylinder but i really dont know.

any help or advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
dave

If you are not losing any clutch fluid & you have no air in the system (you can bleed it to be sure) then I would agree that you have clutch master cyl. problem.

I see a clutch master cylinder in your future.
Not a bad job. Between $75 and $120 in parts.
An afternoon in labor.

As already suggested, it could be the master cylinder. I would also suggest that you check to make sure the clutch pedal spring is still there and not broken. Make sure when it is working properly that the pedal returns to the full up position.

It could also be the pressure plate is going bad too.

thanks for the suggestions. after changing the fluid, the clutch pedal spring was the next things i checked and its fine. im gonna bleed the system and if thats fine then ill tackle the master cylinder.
