Default I-sharft torque

Anyone know the torque spec on a C5 Z06 intermediate (steering) shaft? It's not shown on that "torque + specs" jpg list that's always floating around.
Thanks!

Cool. Thanks again.
Not a commonly replaced part, from what I hear.

Chevy has a recall on a lot of steering shafts and has redesigned it many times for a noise complaint. Kind of a clunking noise when you hit a bump while turning. I'm not sure about the shaft on the vettes but I have changed many of them on their sedans and even more on their trucks. There is a service bulletin on it. I don't have access to the bulletins right now.

Yeah, I have a clunking noise on bumps but not while turning. But the dealer replaced the shaft, and it did nothing. The clunk is closer to the firewall, maybe even on the inside. Truth is, sounds more like a loose speedo or cable rattling in there.

So they agreed to switch it back out. I don't think the recall covers 02 Z06's or they probably would've known. Where are you located, by the way, and do you do repairs for the public?

A new question: when replacing the I-shaft, does the steering wheel have to be re-aligned--straight up and down--or is it not a function of the replacement?

As far as I know the only way to install it incorrectly is a full turn of the wheel where you will have other problems.

Before you undo the bolts and pull the shaft loop the seat belt thru the steering wheel to prevent it from turning. It should only line up one way but you don't want the wheel to get out of sync you could break your clockspring.
