Had the muffler bypass done this morning and I am disappointed. Well, the vette is still stock everything and I shouldn't have expected to mean a growl I guess.
yup , make it loud so the cops will hear you coming and pull you over.....good thinkin'
I've dealt with a pretty healthy 383 & mean sounding exhaust before and the thing is , don't make it a habit to drive like a maniac and you should be ok. Around my area most police officers are cool as long as you're not being a threat to the safety of others. I am actually getting a police officer that's supposed to be good with tuning to work on my vette.
Ok, looked into it a little more and I will be installing some high flow cats instead of hollowing out the ones in the car.
Should get some headers while you are at it
Btw I ran with headers, off road x pipe, and slp loudmouths for a pretty good while and I didnt have any cops bother me.

That still wont do much and the cost wont be worth it. the cats are part of the h pipe so your going to by hi flow cats and then pay someone to weld them? your looking at a few hundred bucks im assuming about 300? For that just get and catless xpipe and its plug and play and will sound better and you still have your unmolested stock stuff but again not much louder I think you will be dissspointed. For a few hundred more you can get a used catback and get some real music out the rear with some nice tips. If you wanna have control of your sound from mild to wild then research some electric cutouts.just my feedback

Got a link? I've never seen a complete catless midpipe that would completely replace the stock part. All I have seen is universal X-pipes and X-pipes where you cut the pipes right after the cats and slip that X-pipe on instead.
Another option is to get the XSPower catback system. It's fairly quiet at idle and cruising but LOUD at WOT when you wind it out.

Peter
I seen a few on ebay type in corvette x pipe and you should see a few.

Didn't see a single one. All the C5 X-pipes that were on E-Bay are installed by cutting the stock pipes after the cats and slipping the X-pipe over the stock pipes.
I've still never seen a complete replacement center exhaust section for the C5. Only way to not cut the stock exhaust is by installing headers which typically come with the piping to connect to the catback system.

I'm a fan of no cats, but if you do anything to the cats, don't hollow them out. You have a good idea with high-flow cats. Hollowed cats would cause flow issues and could result in less HP.
Bah....cops aren't going to bother you unless you drive around town WOT. He "should" be able to keep the sound down if he wants to.
I've got LTs and Corsa's and this baby is LOUD when I want it to be. Otherwise it just purrs along.
I had straight pipes for a while (LOUD) and I have stingers now (loud) never once been bothered by a LEO. I have gotten a few compliments from them though...
