Default x-pipe install on ramps

I know the topic of removing the factory exhaust on ramps has been beat to death, but through searches I didn't find anything on if changing the factory h-pipe to an x-pipe could be done with the rear end on ramps? Thanks.

It can be done on ramps/stands... I don't know about just having the rear in the air though. Unless your ramps are crazy high I don't think you'll be able to crawl far enough to the front to the the bolts out.

FWIW; the issue with doing the cat-back on stands is that the stock pipes and over-axle portion are all one piece which necessitate a HUGE amount of clearance to remove them. You can just let the cat-back portion hang while you swap the h-pipe out so you won't have this issue...

As cdk said you wont be able to unbolt the h pipe in the front, but if you are just going to cut it off then you should be able to do that with just the back end in the air. It will be tight but Im almost 100% positive that it is possible.
Also if you want to change out your cat back on the ground you are going to need your rear bumper a minimum of 32 inches off the ground with a manual and a little higher with an automatic, Ive done both and it is a lot harder on an auto. Of course Ive only dont the manual on the ground.

Yep. I did mine with just the rear end on jack stands. However, I recommend you use a good chain pipe cutter if you want to get straight and chamfered cuts. It was pretty simple really. Just make sure that you properly measure where your cuts are supposed to go.

I do all my work on stands. Did a header install on the C6 a while ago:

To get the over the axle muffler pipes off and out, the rear will need to be up really high or you will have to cut the over the axle pipe.

i installed mine with a jack and 2 jack stands in the partking lot of my old apartment. it was a pain using a hack saw to cut the exhaust with no leverage all awkward squeezed under the car. just make sure you get quality blades for the hack saw if you dont have a chain pipe cutter. those chinese blades literally wore out on me in less than 1 minute of hacking.

Yeah I'm just going to be cutting it off, but I was going to try to use a sawzall? Not sure if there is going to be enough room for that. And does anyone have the exact lengths on where to cut the factory pipe. Borla says that they don't have that information.

As I stated previously, get yourself a chain pipe cutter. You don't require full acces to use it. They aren't very expensive and you will be glad you did.

Default Chain cutter

here is a pic of the chain cutter. It only took 20 seconds to cut the pipe.

There might be enough room for a sawzall but you are just asking for trouble IMO. I have seen the guys are Carlisle use those chain style pipe cutters and they work really well.
Your best bet with cutting it to the correct length is to measure it for yourself, just dont get the sides switched as they are different lengths and the pipe slips over your existing so you need to leave a little bit extra.

I second that! I used a chain cutter and you'll want to beg borrow or buy one of these. Not only are they quick and easy to use but they leave a nice finished edge to fit the new Xpipe over.
