Default Question about clutch install...

Hey guys, I have a question about installing a new clutch and flywheel in my 2000. Do I have to remove my American Racing long tube headers, or can the flywheel and clutch be removed with the bellhousing still on? Thanks!

You have to drop the entire rear cradle and the drivetrain comes out for this job. There's a good diy writeup on here for this.

Make sure you replace your slave cylinder/TO bearing, your pilot bearing and check out your torque tube couplers while your in there...

I think you can do it with your headers in place, the rest of the exhaust obviously comes out. The bell housing does not have to come off... just the inspection plate.

Yah, i know about the rear cradle and torque tube, and the mid-pipe comes out, but I've read conflicting reports on long tube header removal to clear the bellhousing. I'll be doing this on a lift in my shop, but I don't want to have the rear subframe halfway out, and then realize I need to put the car back down to loosen up the header bolts. Has anyone done this before? Thanks again.

Just found a great article...looks like I need to loosen them and move them out of the way in order to remove the lower shield from the bellhousing. Thanks.

You definetly dont need to take bellhousing, just install from inspection plate area, i did mistake taking bellhousing last time, if thats the case than get flex universal 13mm 1/4' socket along with 1/4" long extension astrpneumatic sells them on amazon.com, that saved my life, without that its possible but with lot of pain and cursing.

Also get the clutch disconnect tool made by OTC on amazon if you decided to install new slave unit with remote bleeder line (make tight tight that remote bleeder connection at slave unit side).

also need Flywheel turn tool and use only red lock tight on flywheel bolts and again tight tight those FW bolts (mine came loose used blue lock tight and torqued to 50 lbs, i was wrong and they came loose on track).
