I will be purchasing 3.42 gears, Pro torque 2800, and was wondering which to get......Hypertech Power Programmer or a Power Loader program? Is there a difference between the Hypertech Power Programmer or a Power LOader? Please elaborate why some of you chose Hypertech over Power LOader or vice versa. Thanks all.

I just upgraded, from 3.15's & Yank 3000, to 3.42's and a Yank Super Thruster 3200. I programmed the change in about 10 minutes with the Hypertech III. The Powerloader II can be programmed by Steve Cole to accomadate the same changes. But I have heard on this forum, that sometimes there are long delays in actually getting the PLII, and also a slow return if you need to have a reprogram. Myself, being impatient and a control freak, I like the versatility of the HPPIII, as you can adjust and readjust your shift points, shift firmness, rev limiter, gear change, and tire diameter change anytime you feel the need. Some people have also gained some performance with the tuning. I'm not putting down the PLII, as many people have been very happy with the performance increase. But the HPPII works best for me. You can also take out all the changes and return everything to stock with the HPPIII in about 10 minutes. One plus for the PLII is the removal of the "torque management" which gives a firmer shift, and this does add to the overall performance. I purchased the HPPIII used on this forum for $200, so I feel this was a decent investment, especially since if I decide to sell my car, I can return it to stock and probably sell it for the same. Like anything else there are always compromises, you just gotta' go with what suits your needs. HTH
Re: Power Loader 2 or Hypertech Power Programmer? (2000^C5)
Mikie,
How do you like the new converter and gears? Is it a big improvment?
Doug, I just had them installed yesterday, and Mike @ Yank told me to take it easy for about 100 miles. I can say one thing, this combination is definitely tighter than the 3000-3.15's. It is a bit more responsive also. Hopefully I can put some miles on it tomorrow and get to the track on Saturday. I will let you know....can't wait!! :)

Mike, Thanks for the response. Is it true that the HPPIII does not work with any gears greater than 3.15? That is now my issue?
thanks medvette99
I'll let you know as soon as I get some miles on this verter. It seems fine at cruise, hopefully it will shift at the correct rpm with these 3.42's. If not, I can always reprogram the shift points with the HPPIII. Will let you know.
Re: Power Loader 2 or Hypertech Power Programmer? (MEDVETTE99)
When I changed to a 3.42 rear end... Hypertech did not properly correct it & I was getting error codes (although Hypertech does work properly for some people)...
Powerloader corrected the axle change as well as firming up the shifts much better than Hypertech. I only waited about a month for it, although this varies alot I've heard.
I've also had a superchips tuner... Powerloader is BY FAR the best of the three!!!
