Default Dorman tire pressure sensor problem?

Hey guys, had new tires put on the front of my 2000 vette and they broke one of my pressure sensors (Left Front). I bought one from rockauto.com made by Dorman part number 974-051. I removed the tire and installed the new sensor just like the directions state. I can't get it to activate. I have a TIPS activation tool and several magnets. Nothing will work. I can go to the R/F wheel and the horn sounds no problem, but can't get the new sensor to learn.

Is it possible the new sensor is bad? Any thoughts? Thanks!

If they broke it,why didnt they replace it at their cost? Many cars use these sensors now,so they should be able to change tires without damageing them.

It should have been the shops problem to replace it and make it work.

Yah I agree, it was there fault, but they didn't have a sensor and had to order it for another day, and I don't want to go back there, I figured I'd fix it properly myself. Not having any luck though...lol.

I stopped by the Chevy dealer and talked to one of the techs today. He tried to activate the new sensor for me, and said the sensor is no good, because the rest of them activate no problem. He said the aftermarket sensors are junk, and to get one from Chevy. I guess this new sensor is junk...lol. I hate this car more than anything.

You hate the car? Really? So Bob's tire shop breaks one of your TPS, and instead of holding their feet to the fire, you go another route.......and came up holding the bag. All you had to do, was make them replace the sensor, and you'd be fine.....instead, your out the money for a sensor that doesn't work, and trying to find sympathy on the forum .........and you hate the car. Perhaps the car hates you...

Some TPMS sensors can definitely be harder to train than others, even when brand new.

I've found that the easiest way to train new TPMS sensors, is to do it BEFORE it's installed in the wheel.

Do you have the correct sensor installed. Figure out if the one you have is a 97-2000 OR 2001-2004 THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE and will NOT work in the other systems

Where do you live? I will be right over to tow that hated car home.

I'm not looking for sympathy, just frustrated with this thing. It's always something with this car, it hasn't been easy. I'm going to try and train the sensor off of the rim as suggested. If not, I'll go with a factory sensor. I am going to bring the tire shop the bill, I just have to make it work first. They were very unproffesional, and I don't want them to touch my car ever again. Thanks for the help.

I double checked the part number, it is the one for the 97-2000's. Thanks.

Randy

I sense your frustration level. Sorry I made a smart *** comment. I own/have owned a 65, 72 85, 98, 02Z 06, and a 2011 GS and NONE of the corvettes have been trouble free. Even though Ive had issues with each,,, I'm NOT ever going to switch brands!!!
I may gripe that I'm an unhappy customer and look for a resolve. I'm still a LOYAL CORVETTE CUSTOMER!

EVERY car manufacture has it issues. Just go sit in (what ever car manufactures service center waiting room you pick ) and listen to the customer GRIPES. I'm sure that there will be plenty!

Ive owned FORD, PONTIAC, VOLVO, JEEP Other Chevy products and Corvette,,, All have their short falls and benefits!

This FORUM and LS1 Tech makes CORVETTE ownership a LOT more
palatable than ANY vehicle that Ive ever owned.

Just saying. Been there done that,, still a C5/C6 Customer!! Solve the LITTLE issues and enjoy!

My left front sensor quit working. I replaced it with a Dorman from Advanced Auto, now it has quit working and I can't get it to re-train. The other 3 original sensors are still working.
