muti-function switch replacement
Has anyone replaced the multi-function switch on their C5? My headlights stopped working and the local Chevy dealer diagnosed the problem as a bad switch. They claim it's a three hour job because the airbag and steering wheel have to be removed. Is this possible? They are quoting a price just north of $600 for the job including the switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are quoting you right out of the book. Many have replace the MFS, without the steering wheel removal. So if you do it yourself, you just have the cost of the switch.

I used that write-up when I took mine out... It was pretty simple. Don't let the stealership charge you $600 for something you can do with basic hand tools...

Stealership won't remove the wheel and airbag for this job, they will just charge you for it. Use the write up or another shop.

Discovered my switch was bad the day I brought my C5 home. Discovered this site the next day and did some reading. This is a very common problem. I did the fix I found here

Took about 15 minutes to take apart move the contactor and put it back together. Has worked fine for 2 years so far. Found the best price for a new switch at the time on Amazon $146.00 to 218.00.
Used the link lucky131969 posted to take the switch out and put back in. Only hard part was the bolt you need the T25 to remove. You have just a lot of little turns to get it out. I spent a total of 2 1/2 hours with removal, repair, testing and reinstalling the switch.

You can super glue the little torx bit into an open/boxed end wrench to remove/install that one little screw...then just break the glue when your done and clean up the wrench with a wire wheel. It'll make sense when you're looking at it.
