C5 Auto hard to shift.

C5 Auto hard to shift.
All the sudden my 02 C5 with 38K miles on it became hard to shift from park into any of the other positions. Is this most likely due to the shift linkage/cable failing? Anyone else had this issue and what was your fix?

The first step is investigation. Inspect the shifter assembly, and connection at the trans.
