My brother is thinking of changing out his stock 2:73 rear end to a 3:42 on his 97 C5. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what sort of improvements or problems they may have had . Also what this change over cost them.
I did this on my 97 and love it. It was 2 tenths faster than my friends 97 6 speed, and we both had air boxes.
Mallet did the install $700 but you can get it done cheaper. I used a hypertech to do the gear change for the ecm. O
ne of the vendors, I think Tbyrne is running a special on the gears. I also put in a Yank 2500 stealth converter $350.

I did this change to my 2002 after I had the car for only one month. I love the difference. Had it done at the Vette Doctors here in Long Island and they did a class A job.
As soon as my Powerloader II arrives, I will be taking it to the track to check out the 1/4 mile times. I am hoping for 12.9 as a goal. That's with the Powerloader, ZO6 Air Box Cover and the 3.42 Rear.

Ditto what WallstAL said, if you later decide to install a converter you will have to pay the labor charge twice. I had my gears and converter installed for $500.00 the converter really makes a big difference in performance. I chose the Pro Torque 2400, it drives like stock at normal speeds, but still gives you a very nice increase in performance.
