The late model Pontiac GTO spare isn't an exact fit for a C5/Z06. It usually needs to be opened up just a bit on the ID for the hub. You can find more specifics by using "pontiac gto spare" as keywords in C5 Tech, using search or search this forum (in the red banner). It's been discussed a lot.
I have a 1998 ws6 spare would it fit?
Try it...
The problem with using a smaller OD spare tire is it's potentially damaging to the rear axle and will more than likely cause the Traction Control to act up. In an emergency, that may not be a concern. Or, you can carry a tire compressor (oem Z06 or from SLIME), tire plugs, tools, small light weight scissors jack, etc for such an event. Don't forget your cell phone.

For GTO spare tire, to open up the hub area, i just used a hand file and it took about 5 minutes....very small amount of metal to file away to fit on the hub. NO issues at all to do this, it just needs to fit over the hub...the bolts will hold it on with no problems and help distribute the load.
