Default 2001 key resistance

Hi all, I am in the UK and need a replacement key for my 2001. I see that Ecklers do a key blank you can get cut yourself but it needs the code for resistance level.
Question:- is it a simple matter of measuring the resistance accross the chip and using that reading as the code or is there a special GM tool that gives the code? I have measured the chip and have a 6.04ohm reading which is within the code remit of 2 thru 15
Can it really be that simple?
Mike.

Thanks guys that was super quick. I have tested the resistance several times and am sure its 6.04 so code 12 and have placed an order with CC as I could not find a cheaper alternative even on ebay.
Thanks again
Mike.

Yes, it's a simple resistance value that is easily measured with an Ohm meter.

If your meter is relatively accurate, your VATS uses a #12 key blank.

Perhaps it is a typo or perhaps you need to double check your reading.
Number 12 is 6.04k or 6.04x1000 ohms = 6040 ohms. Did you note
the scale your meter was set to?

6.04k ohms becomes 6040 ohms when you move the decimal point over 3 places, and drop the k multiplier. They both represent the same numeric value.

There is a range of acceptable values for each key blank number.

Put 1 meter lead to the pellet on opposite sides of the key.

Your meter was in the K range so your reading was 9500 ohms. Key #14.
