Default Lets Talk American Racing Header Install

I am getting my 1 7/8" ARH's in on Friday and am going to the track on saturday. I need to prepare for the install as much as possible so I dont run in to any snags...

Will factory gaskets work?

Does the engine need to be raised?

What all needs to be removed that doesnt involve the exhaust system?

Thanks in advance!

I reused my factory gaskets and I dont have any problems with them, Im not sure if all years had the same gaskets but mine were 3 piece compression gaskets.

Poor choice, and not worth advising. If you are installing a $1600 set of headers, and all the work that's involved, does it really feel good saving the extra $21 on new exhaust gaskets?

To the OP, buy a new set of round port gaskets....if they do not come with the kit already.

I will get new gaskets, I just was making sure they use GM style gaskets and they dont have to be something different.

New gaskets should come with them. Mine did. Easiest headers to install. Might as well put new plugs and wires on while your there. If you have you factory plugs, you will probably rip them apart when you remove them.

Yep, do like Dan says and take care of plugs, etc... while you're opened up and have easy access

Yeah I regularly change my plugs. I actually change them every oil change. My car is modified and I keep a close eye on them due to the methanol usage. I will change them while I am in there Friday. I will post results!

There are plenty of threads on this topic. If you already have round port gaskets, they don't need to be replaced. I always replace the factory gaskets but generally reuse them if the headers have to come off again.

LS1 F-Body gaskets work great. I believe they are GM Part# 12617944
