left side half shaft leak
I am new. I am posting because of a problem I am having. I am a typical voyuer. I do all my own work on my car. I own the digital and paper copy of the service manual for my car ( 04 vert. a4 3:15 z51).
I am replacing my tranny. Long story. I pulled everything tonight and only had a problem with clearance of the propeller shaft assembly because of the damn long tube headers. My own fault for putting them on. I got everything out after a little K-Y and muscle.
My problem is; I got the rear, tranny, and shaft on my bench to disassemble; rolled it to one side and gear oil started POURING out of the Driver's side of the diff ( the hole/male end of the half shaft). I have replaced the COVER gasket before. This is one of the bulletins( I read about then noticed a drip) and fixed. The old leak was on the cover this is coming out of the rear itself on the drivers side. I then tipped it on the passengers' side and NO LEAK?!? I then searched my library for a reference and found nothing.
I've pulled a driveshaft on my truck before and had tranny fluid pour all over me. Is this the same thing? What could be leaking? Any exp. or help? thanx.
