Not sure how to answer your question, but my tuner turned my 1st to 4th gear skip shift light into a shift light...Works pretty well, I can just see it in my peripheral vision when I need to shift.

Not sure what software he used, but it was one of the commercially available ones. Sorry not to be of more help...

I can't speak for other software but I use HP Tuners and it's just a basic function they've built into the software to use the skip-shift light as a shift light.

Works well and has several adjustable parameters.

Certainly not worth the cost of the software just for a shift light but I'm sure you could find someone nearby or a shop that would do it for you for pretty cheap or free.

If you're using the software, no.

Even if you wanted to use an external light elsewhere you could tap the leads/circuit of the skip-shift light to connect an external light.

I think that depends on the shiftlight you want to use.
I personally like the Raptor shiftlights they do not require tach adapter.

The Raptor is a real nice piece, used them on a few motorcycles. They make them for cars to; a quality, versatile self contained unit that's programable and really works.

For the price of 2 1/2 tanks of gas you could have a real shift light that you could depend on and help make you a better driver

The search function is your friend and with it posts going back to 2003 can be found.
This is the best if you want to hard wire a Raptor into your car...and it still has pics.
Many thanks to Flyin'Brian.

Good luck.
