I've got a 2001 A4 with 2.73 "gas sipper" gearing, YET I'm only averaging about 15.3 to 16.0 mpg.... WHAT GIVES??? My commute to work is mixed, mostly street with a short 2 - 3 mile jaunt on the highway, the other 5 miles is city. I steady cruise the highway @ 65 - 75 mph and in town is about 35 - 45 mph.
Not that I ever thought of the Vette as an "economy" car, but it seems many members are getting much better averages than me. Could it be because my car only have about 6,800 miles on it???
What's everyone else averaging?? Modified or not replies welcomed!
I get between 23-25 mpg's and I have 3.42's . Now, depending how high I tach the car I might get 20, if that. The car is still stock and I change the oil regularly.
I dont know why you are getting 16. Try doing a tune-up I.E plugs, air filter and see how that works out.
That sounds low, but mileage depends a primarily on how you drive the car-- if you get on it a lot, your average will reflect that.
Try hitting reset on the avg. economy while you're on the road-- and then look to see what it does.
If you're really light on the pedal all the time, and you still get those #'s, then I'd get it looked at
My weekly average MPG is somewhere around 12-14.   And when I get anything higher than that, then I know I didn't drive the car as it was made for. :D
For me, the gas milage is the least of my concern. What I worry about most is how much abuses the bottle end & drivetrain can take.:D
I pull 16 city/open road and 22 open road sometimes 24 and I run a C5R with highly ported and polished heads and inconell exhaust valves so they stand up to the heat generated by the twin turbos.Dave s.PS>
I spank it every day once my oil temp has hit 135-140 theres rubber all over the place.I only use Hi-Boost 14.7 Lbs 1Bar when I'm racing it it for $$$$ from a 50mph start and I start i 3rd unlike the Supras 1000rrwhp at 8500-10000 rpm its real spikey Im totally linear. From 2200rpm up im buiding boost they have no low end thats why they usually run a 150-200hp wet shot comes in early and leaves at about 6500 so the turbo can spool up and not grenade.I used to beat them in my 5.7 ls6 fixed boostaround 6 or 7 lbs.
Now at 427 cubes and highly worked heads and a bit just slightly ground beyond stock I can take her to 15Lbs.and they recomend 100 octane at Xtreme we stock BP 108 unleaded so even if you have 4 gallons of 91 you fill it and come out with 102+.Actually theres not even a ping goinng up a hill at 9lbs.at 25mph on 91 octane windows up Borla Ti exhaust and the turbos acting as mufflers you have 0 detonation even wants take off and switch it to 15 lbs same scenariono detonation not a ping.I dont suggest it and I run a moderate 5-7 or 7-9 mid boost.Yours truly Dave S.PS.
Shawn @ LAPD sells a octane booster I've tested extesively on my own and it will raise your octane by 2-4 points.Dave S.
I'm averaging 22-24 in 70% city/ 30% Highway......I never thought i'd get this type of Milage w/ a 5.7L V8, i was only getting 21-22 in my 1.8L 4-Banger Audi.
Driving back and forth to work (no highway) I get around 19 on the DIC, which is really about 18 when you do the math based on fuel fill-ups. On the highway I get around 26-28. Yours definitely seems low, unless you're doing a lot of full throttle starts.
I use to get real poor mileage when I first got the vette. My poor foot was nothing but lead on the gas pedal. Now, I get low 20's in the city and when on the highway, normally 28-30 mpg.
Your accelerations from stand still and within city traffic, relatively high rpm shifting (if MN6) and other driving styles affect your gas mileage.
The claims of 30+ mpg are for those people cruising 70-80 mph on a generally flat interstate.
Hiway driving only ....... I get an easily repeatable-at-will 31 mpg. I have actually measured this
with gallons vs mileage, not depending on the car's computer display.
With the 6-speed,in top gear, the engine is only rev ving 1400 RPM at 65 MPH !!!
(Actually, the computer display turned out to be pretty accurate anyway.)
my 97 with headers, exhaust, pl2, cold air, 315's, a4, pt2400 gets 17.5. It used to be 18.5 but moved down since some of the mods. I always figured it was the newer modles that got the 20+mpg
If I hit reset and only do city driving then I avg. 18-22mpg. If I do mixed driving then 24-28mpg is more like it. If I do almost exclusively freeway type driving with minimal stops I get about 32mpg going no more than 75mph.
Man, it seems like EVERYONE is getting better mileage than me :( Could my problem be something computer related?? Any way for me to find out without going to the dealer for service? Maybe it's a sensor or something?
I "believe" I'm pushing the car too hard off the line, actually I've been keeping the DIC on instant mileage display to see just where my extra usage may be coming from. It seems to me whenever I am accelerating whether up a grade or on a flat road, the car's instant mileage goes down A LOT!! I've seen some single digit mileage.... Without even pushing the car hard!
I just don't understand it?? Could it be something in the drivetrain? On the highway I can get about 28 - 32 mpg on a relatively steady cruise, but once in town... EEK!
Have someone check your TPS sensor reading. If you are seeing high voltage at idle then even if you are not pressing the gas much the computer thinks you are and starts dumping more fuel.
Also little things like fuel filters and such can ruin gas milage. I've seen cars with as little as 10k miles have dirty filters. I think GM recomends they be changed at 10k anyway.
If I put mine on instang MPG, when I take off from a light I drop down to almost single digit also and thats not even jumping on it.
Mine get 15.5 in town (probably due to me braking in gear to listen to the Indies) and we just got back from a 400 mile road trip. Per miles/gallons used I got 28.8 mpg. The DIC was averaging 31 on some of the legs.
For booooring Interstate/Cruise-control runs I am temped to feed it the lower price 87 octane fuel some time.
I remember screwing up one time with my 96 and filling the tank with regular. The car ran fine. I question if we really need the more expensive designer fuels for level hightway runs. Something tells me the mpg would be the same on regurlar and the anti knock sensor may have to work a little.
