Interesting... so the Mantons actually have a flat machined into the base of the ball end and then have a hole drilled that is smaller? I guess this is necessary if he is supplying them based on overall length instead of gauge length.
Yes, there is a flat at the end of the Manson (on left) ... you can see it in this photo. I measured it, and it was within a few thousands to the flat in the OEM pushrod (which is on the right). Manton also claims that with the smaller oiling hole, there is more material in the ball end where it mates with the rocker arm and lifter, so there is less stress in the material in that area.
Check to see that you don't have a lose spark plug --- that can cause a ticking noise too. Also, get a set of rocker stoppers which will allow you to run the engine with the valve covers off and oil won't squirt all over the place --- cheap but very handy to have on hand.
"Rocker Stoppers" --- probably cost $5 bucks
Anymore news on this, I'm going through the same thing and going nuts trying to figure it out. Just put in new ls7 lifters, one I can push down by hand but it does come back up on own immediately.
