Default Headlight Adjustment

Hello everyone

Although I read the archives on headlight adjustment, I still don’t understand the process. I hope someone here can clarify the subject for me or point me to a web recourse with the answer.

At what distance from a wall do I need to have the car in order to adjust the headlights?
At what height from the ground should the light spot be at the above distance?

I assume that I only need to adjust the low beams.

The specs for adjusting the headlights using a wall are in the factory shop manual. I don't have mine here with me right now, but I think the distance from the front of the lens to the wall is 20' if I recall correctly. Maybe someone else can post the remainder of the specs.
As to adjusting only the low beams, I don't think it can be done. The headlights are enclosed in a common housing and changing either the up/down or the side-to-side adjustment affects both the high and low beam together simultaneously. :)

This is a question I wrestled with also.

I found nothing in the manual or the noted link that defines the height of the reference target line (Tape #1).

Maybe I'm missing something.

So, I elected to measure the height of my lamps, Centerline to ground and make a line on the wall 2" lower. I aimed the lamps (low beams) at that line from a distance of 20 feet. That method seemed to work OK, but I would rather do it right.

I would wecome the correct position of the target if anyone knows it.

Thanks. Tom

The information are threre. I had to read them a few times ...

LOW BEAMS

Car must be 25ft away from the wall on a level surface.

Vertical Centerline: Center of the car. Right in the middle of the Corvette emblem. Park the car close to the wall, mark the wall, backup 25 ft keeping the car staight and square with the wall.

Headlamp Vertical Centerline: Measure the distance from the center of the right headlamp capsule lens to the center of the left headlamp capsule lens and divide by two. Make two vertical lines to the left and right of the Vertical centerline using that measurement.

Horizontal Centerline: Floor to the center of a headlamp capsule lens.

Horizontal Aim: Align the left edge of the high intensity zone with the Headlamp Vertical Centerline, within the range of 4in to the left or right(right headlamp with the right headlamp centerline, left with the left)

Vertical Aim: Align the top edge of the high intensity zone to the horizontal centerline within the range of 2in above or below

THRAP42, thanks again for the reference!
