Default 427 dyno gone wrong! (Pics and Video)

**Update in Post 24**
Textralia oz 700 is on national backorder for at least 90 days so I need to pick another clutch. I'm eyeing the RPS twin carbon. Input appreciated.

Hello All,

As some quick back story of my luck, My '01 Z06 had a 418cid LS2 in it at time of purchase. At the begining of the year, the cam had too much lift for the heads and needless to say the engine ate itself from the inside out. Wiped cam, damage to heads, pistons, sleeves.... yada yada. Put in an ERL built 427. (Thanks to JC02Z) ERL 427, ETP 245's, Thunder Racing V3 cam, Fast 107/107 setup. Had the motor street tuned to put some miles on it. Finally got around to Dyno tuning it today. My tuner and I went to a local shop here, strapped it down and made a few pulls and adjustments. Air, fuel, timing and all aspects were looking just shy of perfect. The dyno is a mustang dyno. I wasn't in it for the numbers but instead the tune itself. It was putting 440/440 rwhp/rwtq. seemed a little low, They were questioning the clutch. The clutch is a Textrailia OZ700. The graphs showed no sign of slippage. As always, on the last run, the car pulled hard and fast to 6800, as soon as they pushed the cluth, sparks, smoke, and the shrapnel followed. Housing and clutch all over the floor... got the car towed home and here I sit. I will get it towed tomorrow to a shop for full assessment. here are some pics and the dyno run. The camera shot falling at the end is me doubling over from the sound. Not the best vid, but here it is....

WOW,

glad no one was hurt as that is ugly.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Was that clutch in it when you bought it with the 418?

I wonder what the forensics will show you. Installed fastener type, stripped holes or what

Thats weird man.
My Tex OZ700 clutch held 700+RWHP for a couple years and was working great when I pulled it out.

The clutch was in when I bought it. It was inspected when The engine was swapped. All was good with it. It scared everyone but all the shrapnel stayed under the car. I am curious to see what caused the failure.

Thanks all. The car is getting towed tomorrow morning to the shop. I'm hoping for some news tomorrow night as to what's all broken and why. Will keep updated.

lets hope when the bell housing broke it didnt break the mounting points on the block! Very lucky that nothing came out through the tunnel area and stayed under the car.

Yeah, all that shrapnel looks like bellhousing to me. Good luck with your repairs. Should be making more power, even on a Mustang. Something is missing.....

That sucks but I've seen pics where a clutch letting loose took out a lot of the firewall. Glad no one was hurt.

BTW: RPS Carbon Carbon Twin Lite works very well for me.

That's the one i'm eyeing. I'm hoping the damage is limited to the housing and clutch only. *fingers crossed*

Sheww that would be scary.. My guess is the clutch came apart and blew some holes in the bellhousing. I bet you will be fine on the mounting holes to the block. Also there is a 6 speed bellhousing for sale I believe in parts. Good Luck!

Big reason why I bought a scatter shield. Once I saw a clutch go thru the cowl of a car I was sold. Hope block is ok.

Wow! That is scary. I am anxious to hear what they think the cause of this was. I have that clutch, and am getting ready to throw 100-150 shot on it. Makes me a little nervous now.
