Default how to remove Torque Tube

I'm in the process of removing the windowd ls1 from my C5 so I can install the LS3. I've got everything apart but I'm stuck on the torque tube. I dont have a book like I do for everything else I have. Any Help is greatly appreciated.

You need to be little bit more detailed on your question. Are you replacing the engine with the TT in the car?

To remove the TT, you must drop the rear cradle and remove the trans/diff/TT as an assembly. If you are pulling the engine through the top, you can leave the TT in the car. Just a FYI.

first you need to unbolt either the tt from bellhousing or bellhousing from motor.then unbolt motor mounts from the craddle.next hook the engine up to the hoist and get the hoist to be holding the weight of the motor.then lower the craddle as far as you can without removing the bolts all the way.this should allow the steering rack to be low enough so you can pull the motor foward and get the tt out of the end of the motor.

I was also interested in this. Read down this thread and there is a link to a good writeup with pics.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...e-removal.html

He had the drivetrain out but still some good info. Just to add that the TT needs to be supported when you pull the engine. I think GM has a special fixture but I'm sure something could be substituted or made up.

I would pull the engine with the bellhousing attached and just remove the 5 13mm bolts holding the TT. You do need to drop the front cradle as low as possible to clear the front of the "batwing" oil pan so you can pull the engine forward enough to clear the bellhousing from the TT. I did this on my car when I replaced my engine 6 years ago. I'll be doing this again when my 454 is done. Good luck!

Hey buddy I am doing this too -

(1) Did you take the pictures and "IF" so can you post them?

(2) Did you have to loosen the Automatic Flywheel Hub Collar?

(3) How low did you have to lower the Engine Cradle? a lot or just as far as it will go on the bolts?

(4) Did you have to remove your Power Steering rack?

(5) Did you remove the radiator?

(6) Where did you place the Cherry Picker? front or side?

Any and all help will be MUCH, MUCH appreciated since I am ready to do this myself, I have both heads off and almost the whole front of the motor off

I am willing to call to pick your brain!

Thanks,Matt

I like this approach of leaving the Bell Housing attached

Same questions Rick:

(Q) - Did you have to use the longer positioning bolts (M10.0 - 1.5 x 55mm) to keep proper tension on the propeller shaft during disassembly? - like the manual calls for?
