Just because a car doesn't suffer 15% drivetrain power loss doesn't mean the manufacturer understated the power level. Is the flywheel hp rating as stated from ford accurate or low?

.. There is a 12%-18% Drivetrain loss when measuring horsepower on a Corvette.. Horsepower is lost through the drive line.. Auto transmission vs manual transmisssion and independent rear suspension vs solid rear axle.. If you compare a 2002 Camaro SS LS1 (Solid rear axle) to a 2002 Corvette Ls1 (independent rear suspensions) you will find the Camaro Ls1 has more rear wheel horsepower because of its solid rear axle.. so even though the vettes LS1 has 350hp on the factory dyno and the Camaros LS1 only has 323 on the factory dyno.. Its another story when the power hits the rear wheels on both cars.. The results show at the track too, with the Vette slightly quicker due to a weight and aerodynamic advantage over the Camaro. I believe the Mustang has a solid rear

I think the only way to actually determine if the manufactures claim is high or low is to actually pull the engine and put that on a dyno as we are just taking the manufactures claim as fact and using that to figure the parasitic loss in the drive train.

I believe in today's world, the manufacture's have their engine dyno numbers certified by outside agency. I thought I read that someplace ... so they just can't "make up" numbers.

Even if that is true each engine is going to have a different output. Also doesnt the GTR dyno somewhere in the range of 10-15% parasitic loss which seems a little hard to believe as it is awd and auto. But then again I could be mistaken on the numbers as its been a long time.
