I just broke the smog air injections bolt off in my exhaust manifold. I took ARH off to put them back on. So you see I want to be CARB compliant. I'm going to see if I can get the broken bolt out of my manifold ( broken flush with the shoulder).
However, if I can't get it out, this may be the time to get shorty headers. Just for a little bit of performance gain, stay smog compliant, and have less weight up front.
So which shortuy headers should I go with? I've read good things about Billy Boat, and JBA is in my backyard.
I have BBK shorty headers, they came with the car so I can't speak to performance but the ceramic coating on them seems to be holding up quite well, they look nice, and do their job.
B&B is the best shorty over all. Longest tubes, equal length and a merge collector. Not to mention stainless steel. But they are as expensive as many long tubes.

I've had mine on for 3 years now with no problems. Also alot cheaper than the B&Bs
Agreed BBK is significantly cheaper. But I need a CARB approved sticker which Billy Boat has. I can't locate one for BBK.
I believe JBA and B&B are the main two with CARB EO#s. I think there was one other when I was shopping around, but I don't remember who it was...
I went with ceramic coated B&B and I like them a lot. They fit perfect. I mostly did it for looks, to offset some of the weight of my supercharger, and to be CARB compliant...
However, as it tuned out I was able to remove the broken stud and reinstall the OEM exhaust manifold. Now I just have to replace the broken spark plug wires.
That's good news. Some say the oem cast iron manifolds from the '02-04 (Z06) cars were very good for performance. If your car is going to be hibernating anyway, you could locate a set of those, grind them down to clean them up of casting marks, and have them JET HOT coated. You could eliminate the oem sheet metal shielding.
They wouldn't be as light weight as shorty headers, but they'd be CARB compliant, run cooler and look better in your engine compartment.
This is only a viable option if you can get the Z06 manifolds local or inexpensively (shipping) as the JET HOT should run in the neighborhood of $200 inside/outside. You'd be close to the cost of some shorty headers.
