Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (02Z06VETTE)
Regardless of what you choose to do be it head cam or stroker choose the tuner closest to you. If you have one in your state or near to it then that is the one to choose.
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (02Z06VETTE)
02z06Vette,
Wakie, Wakie hand off snakie...
After reading your post.. I now think its time to do an introvention.
Its sounds like you've been smok'n the wacky weed and are off in La La Land..
Time to come back on the prescription medication. :D
If its so easy to run 10's, why havent you done it..????
Oh ya, your car was detonating, bad gas, too much air in your tires, not hooking up, clutch slipping, gears grinding, 87 degrees, humidity, car running almost 200 degrees..
See its not that easy, is it...
Freddie, I just like playing with you.. Actually I hope your car does run in the 10's..
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (02Z06VETTE)
Cartek can build you a H/C package that will make a lot more power then there 383 stroker motor. My H/C package makes 447rwhp and 401rwtq with the 3.90 gears. With the stock gears it is about 466 rwhp and 410rwtq.  The car will run high 10's and low 11's easy. :yesnod:
Freddy the reason why your car made 442 <447rwhp was with a spike>with 3.90's was because you have those really tall tires on your car that are like 27 inches tall. What this does is reduces your overall gear ratio and brings your 3.90 gear back down to near stock gearing. All other x package customers had tires that were 25.5 inches<shorter tire....increases gear> and had either 3.73-3.90-4.10 gears installed when dynoed. This is why c5 pig made 436 rwhp ,brents 430 ?? and duntov with 4.10's made 426.
So I wouldnt say that with stock gears you would have made 466rwhp. No flame just my 2 cents.
High tens are possible under perfect air quality and traction. That package is good for 11.0's-11.40's depending on the driver.
When brent had his 3.42 gears his car made 446 rwhp.
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (Pigface1)
My thoughts from past experience:
H/C Package: the most cost effective of the 2. You will spend at least 10k to get a stroker built/installed/tuned. Has good peak hp, less torque, tendency to be peaky numbers. Performance comparable to a 383 stroker now days.
Stroker: more expensive. Good hp, better torque, more area under the curve. Bottom end built to last and hold up. More potential.
Other options: supercharger, nitrous
From my experience: hp is a drug, more addicting than I thought. You build up a tolerence to it also. I went with a 383 a couple years ago. 420 rwhp then was like WOW. Now I find it like ho-hum. Just as flynbludream mentioned many mid-cube stroker guys are now going beyond that to bigger cubes, N20, forced induction. Been there, doing that still.
If it were me given what you stated above, I'd go with one of the better H/C packages over a 382 since you can get the performance you are seeking with significantly less expense. I know you will love it. I threw the supercharger out there just as an option, I know you have likely already considered that as well.
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (my00c5)
my00c5,
I never thought about 02z06vette's tire size.. He is "rollin on dubs"!!!
We've told him time after time to get rid of those wheels.. I'm interested to see what his rwhp #'s will be..
WoW.. seems like peak HP isnt everything.. As I stated before its how its made thru the rpm's that counts..
Pig,
I have a DRM 382, and as I am impressed with the torque and horsepower, it seems that tuners are currently able to provide H/C cars with around the same rwhp. With a 382 you do obtain a stronger bottom end and more torque. But H/C is a better bang for the buck.. Ask yourself what your end result is, and weight the time vs money senerio..
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (66ImpalaLT1)
$4000 is not a stroker engine. Its a stroker kit. There is a significant amount of labor required to install, and you'll need heads and cam to go with it.
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (02Z06VETTE)
02z06vette,
Lets resolve this.. If you would actually race me rather than avoid me, we could settle this..
I stopped by the restaurant last week and asked if you wanted to play. You stated that you didnt drive your car to work and we would race Sat. at the Vette/Viper shootout. You also stated that you dont run on the street.. Cars to loud, Cops know your car.. and you have to much to lose.. Cool NO PROBLEM... I even showed up on Nitto's so you couldnt complain about my ET streets..
On Sat. when I showed up at the track and made my first pass.. I asked you to line up.. You then stated that you were having trans. problems and would only race me on the street, but not on my ET streets.. Again I said NO PROBLEM..
I dont know what else to say.. when i'm on the street you tell me you'll race only at the track, when i'm at the track you want to take it on the street..
Now I hear that you will not line up with me.. You will only race me off a roll..
So what is it... When your ready let me know...
Remember this is all in good fun, so dont stress over it...
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (StrtracerX)
That's a race I would like to see. It should be close till StrtracerX flipps the switch  I would like to know how you guys do against each other, with no juice of course ;)
Re: 382 stroker vs Stage II H/C package. . (StrtracerX)
Now StrtracerX is talking out of his butt. He never said to me lets line up at the track. Plus the track was packed so i don't see how we could have got that lucky at the track to line up with all those people. I think the only way is to rent the track and have the right set of tires so no one this he spun or what ever. I will call a reserve the track and pay a little more so they will open both lanes. That means you need to come up with some money. :yesnod:   :)
