I'm going to change the fluid on my 99 FRC and I've read where it's not recommended to use Synthetic fluid due to the paper Blocker in the tranny. I don't want to know what fluid you use and why. Or which one you think is best and why
Just interested in why I've read that synthetic will damage the blockers.
Can some one explain to me, in simple terms what the deal is?
I had the same question for my 99 Vert. I called Tremec (which bought Borg Warner which manufactured the 99 MN6) and talked to tech reps. They recommended either Dexron III or Mobil 1. My MN6 has had Mobil 1for several years with no problem.
Others have used other products (Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc) and love 'em but Mobil 1 is fine for me.

Mobil 1 ATF seems to be an excellent choice. I've had it in mine for 2 years now and the shifts are smooth and precise. I actually noticed an improvement as soon as I switched. But, keep in mind that the Mobil 1 ATF is a synthetic fluid. However, if the transmission manufacturer says it's OK then go ahead.

I must agreed with what the manufacture said, but why do some on this forum say that's some synthetic are bad? This is really my question, not which type of fluid to use,but the deal with paper clips and others claiming that some synthetic fluids will ruin the trannys.
Are these just bogus reports?

Only one way to be certain; call Tremec yourself......or ......call a reliable source like RPM transmissions.
The conversation was over a year ago so my memory is hazy about all of the conversation. I do remember that the tech rep was hesitant to criticize other fluids and their impact on the "paper" blockers. He simply recommended Dexron III or Mobil 1. Suggest you make the same call and see if you get the same answer.

I can see why he won't talk about other fluids. I'll probably stick with the Mobil 1 if he recomended, but I sure like to know why there are issued with other fids and these blockers. Just for my own education.
Why do people have to second guess what's in the OWNERS MANUAL. Use what the factory put in it.
Not second guessing. I just wanted to know if anyone knew why some synthetic fluid cause the blockers to go bad. Now, Some people may be interested in knowing if any new fluids have been introduce into the market, this gearboxes were developed years ago and there may have been some improvement in fluids since. If you have a 1969 corvette were the owner manual recommends non detergent oil, would you still be using that oil, because it's what the owners manual calls for? Think about it.
I was just suggesting you read the replies within the thread you started, since your question was already answered.
No Big deal! My question is asking if anyone knows why some synthetic fluids causes the blocker to have issues. I didn't ask what to use, We've read that synthetic cause blocker issue, but the new owners (Tremac),not the manufacture said it's OK to use synthetic. My question has not been answer.Just been told what fluid to use.

Seems like the suggestion to call RPM was a good one. What is preventing you from picking up the phone, and having a conversation with a trusted forum vendor? Are you more content with sitting back, and letting the answers(really opinions) come to you? Why not be a resource for the forum, by actually doing some research talking to experts who do it everyday?
