Think I have cracked my lower oil pan as remember running over a melon sized rock and now have weeping and drops into the pizza pan under the car. Anyone replaced the pan from under a set of race ramps? How hard is it? I'm up for trying it myself if its just a normal replacement issue without having to remove anything but the pan. The dealer wants $950 for the part new and another $200 to install, if its much trouble I'll just have them do it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
if you have to two piece pan you may get lucky and only need to replace the lower piece.
This happened to YeloFvr at the beach, something fell off a truck and knocked a hole in his. We pulled it up on a friends trailer and changed the lower piece.
If the hole isn't to bad you maybe able to take it to a weld shop and have them patch it for WAY less then buying a new one.
I think its just the lower one as the leak is coming from the front portion of the pan ahead of the plug. Havn't removed it yet untill I find out if I can do it myself with the car up on a set of raceramps and jacks in the back. If I can then once I have it off I can determine if it can be welded without warping it. Would be good if it can but got to get it off first. Do you know if average Joe like me can take it off and replace it without too much trouble? Thanks
