Default Codes! Little Help! corvette skid light!

Hey guys.
I recently bought this car (2001 z06) and from the first day it had these codes on it. My main concern is the traction control one. The previous owner "said" that when he changed the tires the traction control light came on and "service active handeling" and "service vehicle soon" on the DIC also came on.
He wasnt a very honest seller I found out several days later so I cant take his word for this. Its past now so I have to live with it.
Anyways The traction control light does NOT come on until i rotate the steering wheel left or right. If i start the car and drive in a straight line i get nothing on the DIC. as soon as i turn the steering wheel the light and the messages come on. Is this my steering wheel position sensor failing on me? should i check for other things based on the sympthoms I'm having?
I also am not able to engage "competitive mode" at all by holding the button down for 5 or even 10 seconds. could this be linked with why the skid light comes on?
Im planing to clear up all if not most of my codes during the winter and get her all cleaned up for next spring. Any input will greatly be appriciated.
onto the codes!.....

Thanks for the explanation, I didn't know about the diameter difference. The only thing that steered me towards the steering wheel sensor was the fact that the light or the messages on the DIC do not show up until the steering wheel is turned.
Is there a way of troubleshooting to see if the sensor is bad?
The infamous column lock message was in fact due to low voltage. I did lots of reading about this and do not get those codes after starting the car with a newer battery.
My quest still continues to find a solution to clear the tcs codes!!!
Thanks

I would think that either the car needs aligned due to off center steering wheel or the sensor, wiring, connections ect. are of issue.

Is your steering wheel even SLIGHTLY off center when going straight?

Might just have it aligned anyway for good measure. Have them pay particular attention to centering the wheel.

Interesting you brought this up. i check the tire pressures regularly and they are all the same..BUT..it does tend to pull to the right a bit ... is it really that smart to instantly figure out an alignment problem!?!?! this is very interesting.

He's correct about the steering sensor. Trying to remember here but I think the steering wheel position sensor is looking for it to be straight within something like 30 seconds or so, or it'll flag an error. The sensor is mounted at the inside base of the steering column, does go bad over time. If your wheel alignment is off, therefore having to hold the steering wheel off to one side to go straight, that alone will generate the code, which will shut down the active handling and so on. Get it aligned if there's any question but 8VETTE7's advice was right on too.
