Just moved from a 95 C4 to a 98 C5 and am enjoying the experience. This may have been covered somewhere, but so far, have been unable to find it. I would like to upgrade the drivers visor, which could use replacement, with one from a later year with the Homelink feature. Does anyone know if all you need is the visor with the Homelink buttons and harness, or are there other items needed to make it work?
Also planning to install a set of C5 magnesium wheels, which could use a refinish. Does anyone make the "magnesium" lettering in a decal version? Stock appears to be screen printed on?
Thanks in advance!
Have seen a few of these on eBay lately and sellers said they are for a C5? My owners manual does not list anything on it as to it being available or how to use. They indicated they were used in later model C5's? Will do some more digging on options.
There are sellers on Ebay that sell a new visor with the homelink built in for $179. I installed a used homelike controler I got off ebay for $20 in my visor. Found the step on this forum a year ago. You simply use a razor blade to cut the visor apart. Trace out the homelink unit on the dividing board and cut it out. Wire the unit into the mirror light, it has power all the time. Then put the halves back together.
I went to pull-a-part and got a visor from a 2002 Lincoln with a Homelink for $5. Nothing else needed. You do need to make sure you get the polarity right on the wiring. You can modify the C5 visor and recover it (will need to take it to and upolstery shop to sew) or modify the visor you get to fit the C5. I followed the instructions from my garage door opener, press the learn button then press the home link button within 30 seconds. When the learn button flashes you're set.
