Default Keyfob issues....

2000 6 speed. My keyfob is acting up. I have to sync it to use it and then only the lock button works. The unlock, hatch, and horn buttons do not work. The even weirder thing is if I press the lock button multiple times in a row it will eventually unlock the car, then lock it again with the next lock press.

I checked the forum and haven't found this specific problem yet. I figured I would try to solder some of the connections on the board as per one of the threads "Legendary problem fixed...." which did not work. My TPS sensors are working fine so I don't think it is the receiver. The battery in the fob puts out 2.7v. Starting to think I need a new fob. Any thoughts welcome.

Happy Turkey Day!

Forgot important information, I already tried to relearn through the DIC and it said it was successful but still had the same symptoms.

For whatever reasons, FOBs die eventually. Some have resoldered and got them going again and others like myself, soldering didn't fix anything and I do know what I'm doing with a soldering iron. I replaced both and no more problems. Gene Culley has the best price around I believe... www.gmpartshouse.com

Think I'm going to just order a new one, but for what it is worth.....if I press the unlock button and then quickly press the lock button the car will unlock. Same with the hatch...if I press the hatch button then lock quickly after it will pop the hatch. Weird but fairly reliable. Still going to order a new one. Thanks for the link dgrant.

Take the FOB completely apart. The RUBBER button pad has a carbon / rubber pad on the board side of the pad.

Rub that rubber pad on a plain sheet of copy paper to clean the carbon/rubber contacts. They can get oxidized and dont work properly.

Then clean the circuit board contacts that the rubber pad touches with a pencil eraser.

Give that a try.

Try your best to fix it. GM Parts House, the other GM parts place, rock parts house and GM dealers don't have the key fob for the 2000 model.

I lucked out and found the last one in Plano TX. Got their last one for $63. If you really want to find one start calling Chevy dealers. If you find a cooperative parts guy have him search his local district inventories. A nice parts guy in Dallas put me onto the Plano store.

good luck
