Default Pop Quiz - What's this wire?

Hi All,

I woke up to a flat battery with only enough juice to flash a dim security light at me (I assume to protect the engine by not starting with too little battery)

Took out the battery to charge and amongst the mess was this wire... not connected to anything and with a bare wire at the end. What is it, and could it be why my battery drained overnight? I did not leave the lights on, so hoping I don't get a repeat drain. Interested what this seemingly useless wire is though! The only thing I can think it is would be the hood light that is no longer connected on my 2001 C5

Thanks!
Joff

It looks like somebody had a stereo or something installed. Is that wire still attached to the positive terminal?

It wasn't attached to anything! It certainly wasnt attached when I changed the battery about a year ago! I do have an aftermarket stereo/DVD set up and 2 speakers in the back that seemingly do nothing. Will try it out when I put the battery back (and probably drain it again!)

Thanks for the reply. Any other thoughts on whether this is something important/to be ignored/to be removed would be appreciated!

Thanks

The wire with the BIG plastic fuse holder is aftermarket and NOTHING OEM! The broken wire ,,,I Have NO clue what it is.

Need a better picture as to where it goes to or comes from.

You need to do a BATTERY CURRENT DRAW TEST before you think you have the problem licked!

The current draw test will show you if something is staying on and drawing too much current when the BCM is in the SLEEP MODE. You should see approx 20-25 milliamps in the sleep mode.

When theres a problem with a circuit staying ON, you will usually see 1-2 amps and that will kill a battery pretty darn quick!

This is a "fuse holder" for an aftermarket stereo amplifier----

Thanks for all you help guys, much appreciated. I unplugged the ridiculous speakers in the back a while ago as they were crackling with a bad connection that I couldn't seem to change with the connection on the speakers. Perhaps the problem was under the hood. So I just connect the single wire to the +ve on the battery and that's it? I'll give it a go.

Thanks again.
