How did we ever drive cars with a needle with a big green range or a light that came on when there was no voltage from the alternator? There's nothing wrong with your alternator.
I agree with you totally. I see the newer guages and digital readouts as a better way of identifying possible problems, before we break down on the side of the road. What I don't like is seeing new cars out there without the extra information. I've got a new 2012 CTS with almost nothing in it to let you know what's going on with the engine. I don't like that. More information to the driver is better than wondering why it quit.

The shop in a box checked the alt. about a month or two ago and said it was week. I kept driving with no problems. Then I let it sit for a week or two and the battery went dead. I trickle charged it to 100%, drove the car, then the battery went dead the over night. I bought a battery and just remembered about the DIC (I had been looking at the needle). I figured the alt. was not the issue. I thought I would just ask some like mined professionals.

Based on the voltages you are seeing, the alternator is charging fine. You may have just had a bad battery, or something may be draining the battery. I assume when you changed the battery you cleaned the connections and torqued them?

I am going to check for phatom drains but I'mpretty positive it was the battery. Cleaned and torqued the connections witha brass wire brush at 45inch lbs right? Yeah. Ah, yeah I did that.
