There are 2 bearings inside the TT. One in the front support and rear support bearings.
The propshaft is actually supported by four bearings. The input shaft nose rides in the pilot bearing pressed into the end of the crankshaft. The other end of the input shaft has a bearing between the torque tube and the shaft. The rear bearing of the propeller shaft assembly is supported by a bearing and housing assembly. The bearing and housing assembly consists of a housing, internally splined hub, pilot bushings, O-rings, snap rings, a wave washer, and two ball type bearings. The bearing housing hub internal splines couple to the manual transmission splined input shaft.
Tire cupping can cause a noise that will exhibit a beat frequency that varies in amplitude while cruising in 6th gear.

He said the torque tube contains 2 bearings. And he's right.

Any thoughts ??
Ray, I agree with Eric that tires are one possible suspect. Are you on runflats? How many miles on your tires? Any signs of abnormal wear? Some tires get harder and/or noisier as they age. I've had some Goodrich KDW2s that got noisy when they got a lot of miles on them.
Worth checking out.
Btw, if you ever do replace your couplers, I can highly recommend Six-Shooters from Prothane.
You can't hear any of the noise at low speeds, 30-40mph. It's only at highway speeds when the noise comes into play....
Robert, I was thinking the same thing about the tires. I have michelin's and i fo believe they are runflats. And I am due for a new set of tires. I'll jack up the car this weekend and inspect the tires to see what i find.
All you guys are just a wealth of information !!
As for the couplers, I have an aluminum one for the rear and will be buying a prothane one for the front position.

Having a solid rear propshaft coupler is a bad idea and might be the cause of your issue. There is a very good chance that the front coupler is on its way out. Two stock couplers share the torsional load, removing one put 100% of the load through the remaining one. What speed and what gear is it the worst?

I don't have the "solid" coupler installed. I have it for when I'm ready to change out the couplers.
you can start to hear the noise at about 55mph or so.

I would take Eric's advice and not use a solid. Pony up for a second Prothane Six-Shooter and use them front and rear. I've had mine installed for several months and have no NVH issues at all.
