May need to replace crank and one rod on 98 engine......
I may need to replace the crank and one rod in my block. Can anybody say the "proper" procedure for repair. By this I mean, are the LS-1's like the old small blocks where you can hone the cylinder walls and put in new rings? Replace the crank and "not" have to re-balance the engine? Finally, replace only "one" connecting rod and still not have to re-balance the engine ?

Dennis.
That sounds bad. What happened? Last I heard your X package was making 424 RWHP and you were having transmission/tunning issues? I know you didn't race it since the LS6 head install so do you think the issue popped up during Dyno tunning?
The reason I ask is I am having extensive dyno tunning done and I know we are all worried about the number of runs it takes to get the PCM right.
Sorry to hear about your situation. We all want to you your red C5 up front with the other 4 (you know who :) ) red guys at the Corvette Challenge.

You should be able to get away with just slapping the part together, but as long as you are in there, why not take the time and really ballance the rods and pistons. Then take the assembly to an engine shop and have them ballance the crank for the actual rod weights and piston weights. The engine will be smoother and tollerate more power adders (later if you so choose).
BUT as long as you need a new crank, why not consider a stroker and get some cubes for your dollars.

How is your monster running? How do you like that radical 4.10 gear in a A4. You are the first A4 C5 on this forum that i am aware of running a 4.10. How is the streetablility, highway driving and of course launches with your set up? I take it that your new engine with the C5 Pig X package is doing great based on your recent post here that you are replacing crank and rod on another engine? Did you get all your tranny issues resolved?

This engine is not from my car, it is a spare that I am considering picking up.
I am glad to hear it is not your C5's engine! Are you going to be ready for the next Challenge? I have decided to stay in NJ for the CCC and not attend the Cruise in :(. I have some other committments that week that is preventing me from going out of town.
I can't wait to se how the A4 reacts to the 4.10. I bet the 60 foot times are going to be insane!!

Bill,
You bringing down the LT5 again? Looks like a sweet car. Like to have a shot at running it. I know you're faster, but I hope to be in that ball park by May 25.

Max,
I haven't decided. Probably both but I haven't figured out how to run them together. I tried it once last year and it really killed my bracket racing day.
The ZR1 is the better bracket racing car and I have been racing it for over 6 years now so I am very consistant. The C5 is much faster and more fun to run. I think we finally have the timming issue fixed so I am anxious to take it for another run down the 1/4 mile (I only have about 5 runs on it since I put the 382 in it).
If I can get a few passes in it before then I may just decide to run the C5. She is built on "old" technology but I would still like to mix it up with some of the "newer" technology based "X" package cars. They have a few ponies on me but I will still give it the ole collage try :).

Jim, I still don't have my car back to really test it. There were a couple of issues that arose and I plan on calling today to see what the return date to me will be, I'll let you know later.
